3 X-Series: Watch TV Via SlingPlayer
- November 17th, 2006 | Mobile TV
3, a UK mobile phone network whose name is a cunning variation on 3G, have announced their new X-Series phone that offers flat-rate internet access, Symbian OS and Sling Media’s SlingPlayer. What does this mean, videophiles? If you are in the UK and you have a Slingbox connected to your home setup you can now watch TV on your X-Series phone. The X-Series will also come loaded with software to make Skype calls, access files on your PC with Orb and monitor eBay auctions.
SlingPlayer will work with cable (Telewest / NTL), satellite (Sky) or free-to-air digital terrestial TV (FreeView) and will allow you to remotely setup your Slingbox to record TV shows. The service should be available from December 1st in the UK for 3 subscribers, but it will be rolled out in other areas during 2007.
It almost sounds like we’re starting to catch up with our Asian friends, but then I realized that all the other mobile phone networks couldn’t care less.
