Movies Download Predicted As Hollywood’s Future Box Office

Hollywood SignYou would need to have been living in a cave cut off from the rest of humanity to miss the next big thing. Ever since Apple released an updated iTunes Store where customers can browse and purchase movies to download onto their computer and iPod we have been waiting for Hollywood to jump on the bandwagon.

Currently only Disney are onboard and have seen some strong sales from the iTunes Store since launch. Other Hollywood studios have been in discussions with Apple but have been dragging their heels over the pricing of downloads and the Digital Rights Management used.

Sooner or later someone in Hollywood will wake up and smell the coffee, internet downloads make sense for them and their customers. While it looks so static right now, analysts are predicting that Hollywood will eventually come online and see sales approaching $500m by 2010.

If we’ve learned anything from music downloads over the past couple of years it would be that the desire is there. The technology is there, so get on it Hollywood. Just make sure our downloads are in HD and without too much crippling DRM.
