Nintendo HD-capable Wii In The Works?

Nintendo’s Wii has hardly just been released and now we hear rumors that it could be getting high definition capabilities in the near future.

In an interview over at Game Informer, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime said that they made some “tough choices about not including a DVD player at the start, tough choices about not including high-definition capability at the start.”  Nintendo have already confirmed that they will be releasing a DVD-capable Wii in Japan, so are they contemplating releasing an HD version?  Yes please Mr. Iwata.

Nintendo have stolen the march on arch-rival Sony’s PlayStation 3 with a great launch last week in the USA, but it remains to be seen what their sales figures will be over the crucial holiday shopping season.  However, if a HD-capable Wii was in the works, surely it would be released post-Christmas to help boost sales in the weak trading months?
