Polaroid: Best Known for Instant Images and Now HD TVs
- November 27th, 2007 | HDTV

That’s right, Polaroid, the famous instant-photo company whose core business has become thoroughly outmoded in the digital age has moved into the world of Televisions. That you may have already known since they’ve made a few cheaper TVs in year’s past, but now they’re expanding into the realm of HD with a line of High Definition Televisions with the name that will give you the urge to shake them and blow on them to make the picture shows up faster. OK, not really. The point is, Polaroid isn’t just about cameras anymore–they’re about TVs, too. And based on the feature sets of theirDefinia line of HD LCD TVs they pretty much rock the TV goodness.
On the short list of standard bells and whistles are the inputs: composite, component, S-video, coaxial, VGA, HDMI (times 2), SCART (times 2) and audio inputs, as well–pretty thorough, indeed. SCART, for those of you who aren’t European is a French-developed standard. One assumes the two SCART inputs may not come as standard on North American models. The Definia LCDs also come with some fun stuff like Picture-In-Picture and something Polaroid is calling “AVC” or “Automatic Volume Control.” What AVC does is level-out all of the audio so that when something loud happens you won’t be bleeding from your eardrums because you left the volume up afterBattlestar Galactica went to commercial break (oh, come on–we all do it).
The Definia line of HD LCD TVs from Polaroid features three screen sizes–32, 37 and 42 inch. While Polaroid has HD TVs at their American website, it looks like the new Definia line is only available at the UK at present (which would explain the SCART). You can check out Polaroid’s UK web page for the Definia line of HD LCDs or swing by the US site and, as is all too common these days, twiddle your thumbs while you wait for them to update.
