SIM2 Announces the Porsche of Video Projectors

sim2c3x1080.jpgSIM2, the Italian multimedia display company has just dropped the Porsche of video projectors on us with their Grand Cinema C3X line of DLP-based projectors. Just look at those curves! These are no Optoma projectors, that’s for sure! SIM2, like Apple Inc., definitely believes that our gadgets should be more than just “things that do stuff.” Clearly, SIM2 (yes, all caps, then a number) is a company that believes our gadgets should be literal works of art. Of course, like all fine art you have to pay for it–but we’ll get to the price later. First, the specs.

The Grand Cinema C3X series projectors are all Hi-Def, ultra-compact, 3-chip, DLP projectors that come in four models and as many colors, though red is clearly the hottest. There’s just something about a glossy-red anything that makes the gadget-fan’s mouth water. That aside, what can the four C3X video projectors do, specifically? Well, the C3X-E can do 1280×720 pixels on the resolution front, 6800:1 contrast, component, composite, S-video, andHDMI inputs and something called a “250W dimmable lamp for extra bright images.” One wonders if that’s just a mistake in the translation from the Italian. The other models cover much of the same bases, but vary in contrast and resolution. It’s only the C3X 1080 (predictably) that can do 1080p. All of the models come with customized lenses (which probably help the price be so, well, you’ll see) and featureDLP-based SIM2 proprietary light engines.

So, here’s the clincher. The price. After all those features and the styling on top of it, you can expect to find a heart-stopping cost to this gorgeous machine. When you think about how the Ferrari and the Lamborghini both came from Italy, along with the C3X line of projectors, you can pretty much guarantee that you won’t be finding one of these under your Christmas tree ever (save for a winning lottery ticket in your future). So, how much does the SIM2 C3X 1080DLP projector cost? Sadly, $32,000. Yep, it’s that sweet projector or a new car. Or a down payment on a house. Or perhaps a year of your kid’s college tuition.

SIGH…
