When HD TV is Short for High Disney Television
- November 7th, 2007 | HDTV
Disney has their name on everything from movies to TV shows, to toys, to your kids pajamas and now, even a High-Def TV has the Disney motif splattered across it like some Mickey Mouse fanatic got hired away from Apple to deliver a classy Disney TV for kids. In a world where even poor children in third world countries are beginning to get laptops, why shouldn’t your kid get his or her own HD TV? The question you almost want to ask yourself is “Why does my kid even know what HD is?”
Maybe he just wants to watch Dan Rather on HDNet. Who knows? Regardless, the price comes in at a whopping $870US (though for now it’s only available in Japan) and if you look at that picture, you just might wonder what you’re paying for considering that the Disney-ish aspects of the design are so minimal, hence the Apple reference above. You’d probably expect giant, black mouse ears on top of the screen or huge, cartoon gloves sticking out of the side of the TV’s case. The thing is, this is an HD TV. It’s all class… apparently. And the gloves and ears are there, you just have to search for them a little.
That said, what does this bad boy mighty, mouse-themed audio/video delivery system come with? First, it comes to us from our friends at Uniden, fine purveyors of crappy phones since the 1980s (if memory serves). According to AkihabaraNews.com, this 20″ inch LCDisney inputs, a screen brightness of 500 hits home with a 1366×768 resolution screen, a couple of three watt speakers, a single S-video input, dual component inputs, dual HDMIcd/m2 and support for TruSurround TX and TruBass. Over all, it doesn’t seem like a bad little box, but the Disney side of things still seems a little underplayed. After all, it’s a Disney TV–there really should be a lot more cartoon-stuff going on here, one would think.
